ARPSC Meeting June 18, 2018

06-18-18 ARPSC Meeting Notes @ Lansing EOC

  • Job Shadowing at ARPSC events

    • There was previous discussion about allowing hams that are not in the ARPSC to job shadow RACES certified members of the ARPSC.  This would allow exposure of people wanting to get involved with the group. Those doing the job shadow would need to always be with a RACES member and would probably not be allowed in the EOC locations during deployments, but could help out at field locations.

  • Field Day Discussion

    • Food and Donations that have been confirmed include:

      • Burgers

      • Hot dogs

      • Buns

      • Doughnuts

      • Port-a-john

    • Computers available

      • 5 from Jeff for logging / station use and 2 chromebooks (Thanks Jeff!)

    • Talk-in Frequency will be the 145.39 and talk-around will be 146.58

  • Computer passwords in EOC

    • Couldn’t get into the computers at work

  • During the programming and testing of radios in local fire stations it was found that the radios in FS 42 and 46 have bad antennas.

  • Standard Operating Guide (SOG) is still being worked on.  Dennis made some additions and changes and they are being reconciled by Randy.

  • Upcoming Events:

    • Common Ground -- this is last meeting before common ground

      • July 5-8

      • If you can volunteer let Jim know!

    • Run for Chum Labor Day

    • So far nothing has been heard about testing out D-1 trailers

  • Skywarn Training 2019 - We are looking into venues to hold the Skywarn training.  Randy was able to secure Holt High School for 2018, but the NWS had to cancel due to limited availability during historic flooding.  There was discussion about looking into the possibility of Holt Schools or Harry Hill school for 2019’s training.

  • MCIMS training training

    • Because it’s been a while since training for the MICIMS system (online Emergency Management platform) there was discussion of the possibility of a training to include more operators and refresh those who took the previous training.

  • D-Star activity with Clinton County

    • Clinton County approached us to see if we could participate in some D-Star activities

    • We have 2820 or 2800 radios -- mobile rig at each EOC

    • Connect with Troy Creed about this and will see what sort of collaboration we could offer

  • Practice for digital modes

    • It was discussed by John Winn that there is a video on YouTube showing how acoustic coupling could be used for practicing digital modes without transmitting your radios.  Two computers with headphones and a microphone are required. Take the headphones from one computer and put them next to / on / between the microphone of the other computer.  Do the reverse too. This way, you can use digital software (such as FLDigi) and send the messages to the other computer, and send messages back, giving real world practice minus the radio.
