ARPSC Meeting Minutes - June 18, 2007
Call to Order (Ingham County EOC - Christine Hendrickson for Mike Perez)
  1. New "Sign-in" & RACES certification sheets were explained and distributed.
    • The "Sign-in" sheet will include information such as: Name, Call, E-Mail, Phone, and the modes you enjoy working as a Ham. This list was created in Excel in order that we can begin to use it as an official database in order to keep track of all our members.
  2. The RACES Certification sheet is intended to be a ready reference for future training needs.

Old Business

  1. ARPSC LISTSERVE
    1. As a group, we will begin to use this LISTSERVE in order to send an E-mail to all members.

    3. All members with an E-Mail address will be included unless stated otherwise

  2. Ingham County POD (Emergency Command/Communications POD)
    1. A tour of the POD was postponed until August 20th, in order that we could provide more time for ATV training prior to Common Ground
  3. MEPIN - was not discussed at this time

New Business

  1. COMMON GROUND (July 8th - 15th)
    1. City of Lansing and Common Ground officials have asked us to provide ATV coverage for all 8 days of the festival.
    2. Details and sign-up sheets were distributed.
    3. After the initial sign up, we still need a few operators for the following dates:
      1. Sunday, July 8th
      2. Thursday, July 12th
      3. Friday, July 13th (2 needed)
      4. Saturday, July 14th (2 needed)
    4. Please contact Tom Shaver, KC8NJK at 517-648-1550 if you are interested in helping out on any of these dates
  2. D-STAR
    1. Bruce Pollock N8WWX, the E.C. and assistant 9-1-1 Director in Livingston County is asking the Regional Board for $76,636 for D-STAR equipment for the entire 9 county region.
    2. I have asked Dennis Boone KB8ZQZ and Jeff Goeke-Smith KC8PUN to research the request and report back. If you are interested in viewing their critique, click here.
    3. Jeff Goeke-Smith KC8PUN and Tom Shaver KC8NJK will be attending an informational meeting on Monday, July 9th at the Windsor Charter Township Emergency Services training room.
  3. FIELD DAY
    1. June 23rd 2pm - 24th 2pm
    2. Discussion by Ron Harger WD8BCS and John Hosford KC8QZB filled us all in on what was going to happen and their specific needs for the weekend. We'll look forward to a full report at our next ARPSC meeting in July.
  4. FSD-212 "STATE REPORTING FORMAT"
    1. A monthly report has to be produced by the Lansing/Ingham Emergency Coordinator that accounts for the numbers of folks on local nets that have checked in as well as volunteer hours at Public Service Events and number of members present at monthly meetings, among other things.
    2. Please try to begin reporting this kind of information to Tom Shaver KC8NJK, in order that our group can be represented as accurately as possible.

  5. CODE SPEAR
    1. District One Regional Medical Response Coalition has granted us enough licenses to enter our members in the Code Spear system.
    2. This system will provide an alternative tool to alert & notify all operators in case of emergency via: cell phone, E-Mail, home phone, pager, etc.

  6. NEW EAS - SKYWARN PROCEDURES FROM 9-1-1
    1. Tom Shaver KC8NJK met with city officials to update our policies.
    2. This new City of Lansing, Ingham County policy was distributed to all members and given specifically to our SKYWARN AEC's
  7. ATV TRAINING
    1. Dennis Boone KB8ZQZ and Jeff Goeke-Smith KC8PUN came to the meeting prepared to teach those that were interested how to use our ATV kits provided by the City of Lansing. Those new to ATV, as well as those needing a refresher had a good time setting up and taking down the equipment.
    2. A huge thanks to Dennis & Jeff for they're time and efforts!

AEC Business (Acting Emergency Coordinator)

  1. EC ASSISTANTS (Those who will take charge if Tom Shaver KC8NJK is unavailable)

  2. SKYWARN: Ben Holcomb - WA8BEN and Jim Lakin - W8JRL
  3. PUBLIC SERVICE EVENTS COORDINATOR: Jeremiah Sevrey - KC8EIA
  4. WEB-MASTER: Ben Holcomb - WA8BEN (Stop by and visit: www.lansingarpsc.com)
  5. NET CONTROL: OPEN
    1. This is a new position that will coordinate the very important tasks of Net Control as needed for exercises and crisis situations.
    2. This person will manage (as many as possible) volunteers who are willing to take on this function as needed.
    3. All Net Control operators will be trained and given manuals to assist them in their responsibilities.
    4. Please let Tom Shaver KC8NJK know if you would be interested in either the Net Control EC position or a Net Control Operator.
    5. (So far, only one person, Joe Caswell KC8WJY has expressed interest)
  6. TRAINING: Tom Shaver - KC8NJK
  7. MEDIA: In the near future, Bill Cote KD8NYW will be assuming this role
  8. DIGITAL MODES: OPEN
    1. Need for someone that enjoys modes like Packet & APRS to oversee those in our club willing to volunteer working these modes.
  9. HF/CODE: OPEN
    1. Need for someone that enjoys working HF Voice & Code to oversee those in our club willing to volunteer working in this area.
