City of Mason recognizes the volunteering efforts of the ARPSC, CMARC, and LCDRA

Amateur Radio in our area was recently put in the spotlight with a Joint Tribute of Recognition, naming Tuesday, February 24th, 2015 as Amateur Radio Appreciation Day in and for the City of Mason.  Lansing Area / Ingham County ARPSC was specifically recognized for our weather spotting and all groups for their participation in Field Day and emergency communication efforts.  Look at the full text below!

The 145.39 Okemos Repeater is BACK on the air on the Eaton County tower. 

The 146.940 (-) PL 100hz is the backup.

Lansing ARPSC to host Advanced Skywarn class

The Lansing ARPSC group is hosting an Advanced Skywarn Class from 6:30-9:30 pm on Thursday December 2nd, 2010 at the Michigan State University Natural Sciences building room 128.

The Advanced Skywarn class is intended for those with a basic knowledge of weather, including those that have taken the basic Skywarn class. There is no cost to attend, and no pre-registration is necessary.

The Advanced Skywarn class will cover topics on severe weather including modes of severe weather (linear, supercell, multicell), severe weather parameters (helicity, CAPE) and how to read radar and weather balloon soundings.

I would like to send thanks out to everyone that helped with the Skywarn training this weekend at Lansing Community College West Campus. Thank you especially to LCC for providing us with pastries and coffee and the room to hold our training in.

The Lansing ARPSC group is looking into holding an advanced Skywarn class sometime this fall or early winter. Please stay tuned to this space for detials on that!

Still time to register for Skywarn!

There is still time to pre-register for the 2010 Ingham County Skywarn training to be held next Saturday, March 20th at 10 am. We currently have approximately 150 registrations for the skywarn training. Ernie Ostuno from the National Weather Service will be giving our talk this year. Ernie is one of the senior forecasters at the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids.

WLNS TV 6 Meteorologist Jim Geyer will be presenting immediately after Ernies presentation. We will have a short snack break. Please bring a snack if you wish to eat. There are also vending machines available.
